Development and applications of computer model dedicated to REACH regulation - Call of Project FUI 17 - DAMIER Project (07/2014 - 06/2017)
The objective of DAMIER Project is to replace some of experimental studies currently requested for the recording of chemical substances according to REACH regulation by an IT modelling of the physico-chemical and écotoxicological data. This modelling is established on the use of QSAR models (Quantitative Structure - Activity Relationship), which have three major advantages:
- Reduction of the cost of constitution of REACH files (up to 40 %)
- Time savings regarding the execution of studies (3 months for the experimental studies against few days for the QSAR models)
- Limitation of experiments involving living animals (fishes).
Although the QSAR models are tools recommended by the European Agency of Chemicals (ECHA), the majority of existing models were designed for screening and are not considered as acceptable for REACH regulation because of their lack of precision. Thus, the DAMIER Project project suggests developing QSAR models of high precision, on the basis of experimental data obtained:
- by the evaluation of the reliability of thousands of available data in existing databases,
- from new more reliable and innovative experimental methodologies.
The DAMIER Project gathers five partners: KRÉATIS ( Project carrier), Processium,Institute of the Analytical Sciences (ISA), Laboratories Pyrenees and Landes (LPL) and Rovaltain Research Company. For a duration of 36 months, this project has a total budget of 1,9 M€.
